“シーシェパードは環境保護団体を名乗って､違法な漁業や海の環境汚染を許さないと叫んでいるが､その活動が環境破壊そのものである事は意外に知られていない｡ 調査船団襲撃時に投げ込まれた薬品や発煙弾の多くは狙いがはずれて海没したが､彼らが投げ込んだ酪酸は､WHO等による国際化学物質安全性カード(lCSC)によれば、人体への有害性の他に「この物質を環境中に放出してはならない」「水生生物に毒性がある」と明記されている。 また､彼らは船のスクリューを狙いワイヤーや漁網をさかんに投げ込んだが､その多くを回収せずに捨て去った(写真９)｡ 南極条約の遵守云々と言う彼らが南極海で薬品を撒き､漁網やワイヤーを捨てて環境汚染を撒き散らしているのだ｡ これは南極海へのゴミ投棄を厳しく禁じた国際条約(マルポール条約)にも当然の事ながら違反している｡ ましてや船を体当たりさせるような暴挙で、万が一燃油の流出や船の沈没という結果になったら、乗組員に対してだけでなく南極海にどのような災害を引き起こすかは､子供でもわかりそうなものだ｡”
